Do I Really Need a Wedding Planner?

Wedding Planning

Okay, so obviously as a wedding planner I’m a bit biased when it comes to this question. Weddings involve a lot of detail, organization, and planning, and doing it all on your own can quickly become overwhelming.

The honest truth though is that no, you don’t need a wedding planner. Everything that wedding planners do you could do, too. But while you may not need a wedding planner, there are many reasons you’ll want one!

Inside Knowledge.

Wedding planners have worked with many vendors at many different venues, so they are well-versed in who and where best fits your vision and style. Think of them as your market testers—they’ve been there, done that, and know a ton of people in the industry. Having a planner with their honest reviews eliminates any rolling of the dice when it comes to hiring your wedding crew.

Super Organized.

Dress. Suits. Place settings. Centrepieces. The DJ. The officiant. The rings. Whew! There are just so many details to think of when planning your wedding, and then to coordinate on the day of.  Getting married is supposed to be fun, not stressful! Enter the wedding planner, this super organized magical unicorn that not only knows everything you need to think of, but coordinates it for you on your big day. That means you get to sit back and enjoy your special day, instead of worrying whether the caterer arrived.

Hands Off (or on, your choice).

If you want to express your style to someone and let them do the legwork for you, a wedding planner is your person. You can literally hire them to plan as much of your wedding on their own as you’d like. If you’d rather be involved each step of the way, wedding planners can act as guides and consultants. Your experience with your planner is totally customizable.

International Expertise.

If you’re getting married somewhere you don’t call home, a wedding planner local to your marriage site is worth their weight in gold. It can be a lot to try to plan and coordinate a wedding from an alternate location, especially if you’re not familiar with the area or not there in person to meet with vendors. Your wedding planner acts as your local guru, recommending the best options and filling in as your eyes and ears.

Stay on Budget.

Wedding planners know what things cost, and can help you both set and stick to your budget. They are great at finding cost effective solutions, recommending beautiful décor, and telling you what really isn’t worth the expense. For a budget big or small, a wedding planner helps you make the most of your dollars.

So no, you don’t need a wedding planner, but having one certainly takes a lot of the stress away! If you have any questions about wedding planners and what they do, feel free to reach out any time—I’m always excited to talk about my craft!
